Welcome to Thursday Fashion Files!

Hi everyone! Long time no chat.

My life has encountered some pretty incredible changes lately, and I’ll be giving you some sneak peaks on my Instagram account in the upcoming weeks.

This blog is also getting a facelift, mostly just what I’ll be talking about, and how often I’ll be updating.

I want everyone to be getting content they LIKE and I want to CARE about what I’m writing about. So after taking a long break, regrouping, and experiencing all these changes, I think I’ve got it figured out.

Thanks for sticking around, and I would LOVE to hear from you with fashion/beauty outfit questions you might have. Email me at shianknuth@gmail.com ūüôā

First clue about my life changes- It involves lots of sand and mountains…

Fall officially hit us less than a week ago, and while we may not QUITE be feeling its effects yet, (aside from pounding PSL every day of life) the cool weather is sure to come quickly. And sadly, all those cute sleeveless tops and linen skirts you splurged on this summer are going to be prettttty useless.

To help a sister out, I have put together a Fall shopping¬†list of cool and classic pieces to stay on trend, warm, and stylish. Fall is all about layering because the weather is super tricky. Cool one day, then it jumps to 75 degrees the next, you have to be able to take some of your clothing off. Aim to wear at least 3 or 4 pieces every day (ie, jeans/skirt, top, blazer/cardigan/trench, scarf/hat). Not only will this keep you warm, but it’s also a stylish philosophy I stole from Who What Wear.

Fall Shopping/Unpacking List

Hats- 2
Hats are the ideal, forgotten layering piece by many until snow hits. Beanies, floppy, wide-brimmed, felt, fur. All are ideal for the decreasing temperatures. Berets are poised to be a top Fall trend. Invest in at least one beanie and one fun hat.

Scarves- 3
Scarves are a game changer. Add one to every outfit. Blanket scarves, fur, silk, do it all. Get one in basic black, one with some metallics running through it, and one with serious fringe.

Flats- 2 pairs
Fall is the perfect transitional time for flats. Basic black are a must, and can easily elevate the simple look of jeans and a white sweater. Invest in a metallic pair as well to pair with brown and every other color under the sun.

Trench- 1
I don’t specify trench coat vs. trench vest. Both are IDEAL for Fall layering. If you aren’t sure how to style a trench vest, try pairing it¬†over an oxford or a light sweater with skinny jeans or a skirt and tights and you’re set. If it gets too warm, take it off. I’m also having a serious SCANDAL moment right now, so I’m all about white trenches, Olivia Pope style.

Light Sweaters- 5

One for every day of the work or school week. Aim for cool patterns/silhouettes to keep your look stylish and fun. Pair black or cream monochromatic looks under a long colorful cardigan for a neat twist.

Cardigans- 2
Think bulky and warm. Try a geometric print, or a checkered look. I prefer mine to hit at least the mid-thigh level for real warmth. Pockets are a nice addition. Pair with a belt and tights to create a dress.

Oxfords- 2
Extra-long/larger sized oxfords. Try aiming for a thinner material that you can pair under a sweater or a leather jacket with black booties. I love the look of a plaid oxford paired with a white sweater. Cuff the sleeves and leave the collar out for a gorgeous look.

Flares- 2 pairs
Pick whatever wash you want, they’re the hottest thing since sliced bread right now.

Skirts- 2
Invest in a leather skirt (or faux) and a wool midi or maxi, both are statement making and protect your legs from terrible wind!

Booties/Boots- 1 pair
I love a good pair of suede boots/booties, but be practical when it comes to where you splurge. Fall rains are a real thing. And then your booties are RIP. Try to stick to weatherproof styles to make them last all season.

Tights- 4 pairs
1 basic black, 1 fun pair, 1 fleece lined pair, 1 gray pair

Hope this was helpful! Please leave any Fall layering or shopping tips or questions in the comment section, or just leave a note to say hi ¬†ūüôā

Hi friends! I’m currently caught in the middle of an insanely busy/fantastic/fun New York Fashion Week! Get pumped for some of the amazing shots I’ve been able to take of the beautiful new lines.

In the meantime, above I’m wearing what will become one of the most popular trends for Fall/Winter, menswear. Androgynous looks are wild on the runway, with men and women walking intermingled in the shows, and clothing often gender neutral.

I’m a BIG fan of masculine styles, which may surprise you considering my clear love of feminine touches in my outfit. But that’s the key, keep those touches to prevent yourself from looking like a straight up man. Boyfriend jeans. I’m on board. Boyfriend jeans, a red oversized t-shirt, Vans, and a baseball cap? Not my scene. Could be a cute outfit on someone else if executed correctly, but I suspect you’re just going to look like a dude.

That’s the thing with trends. Don’t dive all in, ever. That’s a hard and fast rule. If you like a trend, ease it into your wardrobe and start off slowly.

Menswear looks beg the following:

  • Slouchy jeans
  • Oversized t-shirts
  • XXL Men’s button down cinched at the waist with a belt (Personal fave for thrifting)
  • Blazers
  • Ties. Don’t be scared! Try a black skinny tie paired with a Peter Pan collar and skinny jeans. Or a red bow tie with black leggings.
  • Suspenders
  • Oxford shoes
  • Joggers
  • Band/Graphic tees

Hope everyone is having a beautiful Monday, enjoying this touch of Fall weather, and is pumped about trying the menswear trend!

A few weeks ago I posted my most popular article (EVER!) on pattern mixing. One of the things I mentioned in the post was that you can use leopard as a neutral in your outfits. I got a ton of response about this, both from people who agreed and those who had never thought to do it. So I thought in this post I would break that down a little more and give you lots of ideas for using animal print patterns as neutrals in your outfits.

Fun fact, I NEVER liked any sort of animal print, up until 1 year ago when I got a pair of zebra print sandals and I realized how well they paired with everything in my closet. I think this is a result of the neutral colors and familiar, natural patterns that don’t clash harshly. I can’t say the same when you go wild (puns ;)) with the color schemes, breaking from standard shades. Still not personally a fan of those.

Animal prints are classic, and one of those items we’ve discussed in the past that are worth dropping a little more cash on. They were also HUGE on the Fall/Winter 2015 runway. In my opinion, with animal print, less is more. If you’re going to wear an animal print top, I highly recommend keeping your pants/skirt one single shade. This is a surefire way to keep your outfit looking chic and sophisticated. Also, when using animal print as a neutral, only stick to one animal print. If you use more, it’s NOT a neutral. Keep it small, simple, and NOT the focus of the outfit.

Basic animal print go-to’s
Leopard
Tiger
Cheetah
Giraffe
Zebra
Tortoise Shell
Python
Monarch Butterfly (Kidding, but why not?)

Investment-worthy animal print pieces
Belt, no question
Scarf
Heels
Purse
Clutch
Phone Case
Ring
Sunglasses
Tank top/undershirt
Daily-wear sandals/tennis shoes
Ribbon (to tie around a hat, or in your hair)
Poncho/Cardigan
Blazer
Gloves
Watch

My favorite way to subtly incorporate animal prints into my outfits is with a leopard print belt or snakeskin heels. What is your favorite way to pull animal prints into your outfit?

Shian

PS- If you love these dainty layered necklaces, check out Happiness Boutique! They have a sick selection of dainty and statement necklaces, and have a nifty¬†customer reward program! Real talk, this was 100% sponsored, more real talk, these necklaces are my new favorites to wear together and separately, and I actually really like this company a lot. They leave you sweet, personalized notes or quotes when they send you your jewelry and the whole mission of the company is to spread simple happiness, which I’m all about.
